ROUNDTABLE/Behjat Gilani Producer             Nadeem Yaqub Engineer              Al Santos 06.17.2013   Topic: United Nations Organization Contributing towards Many Facets of Social Development in Pakistan   We had a very informative & comprehensive discussion in todays’ Roundtable as key figures from the important UN agencies participated & explained the tasks they perform to improve the lives of common people. There are several agencies of United Nations Organization which have been actively contributing towards many facets of social development in Pakistan. These range from helping in coping with the aftermath of natural calamities like floods and earthquakes to healthcare, education, women’s development and preservation of historical sites. The UN agencies like UNICEF, UNHCR, FAO and UNDP have been active despite the threat faced due to never ending terror attacks. The spokesperson started with a brief history of United Nation Mission in Pakistan as for last 66 years the mission has been very actively pursuing its goal by improving the capacity & ability of government & non-governmental institutions. The representatives from UNIC, WFP, UNICEF, UNPF, UNHCR, UNDP & UNODC talked in detail about the scope & methods to reach the common people & work to improve their daily lives. They say these agencies are committed to their goals despite security concerns. They talked about the eradication of Polio as one of the top priority though their workers have been attacked. They talked about the transparency of their programs as monitoring & internal & external audit is there and they are accountable for every dollar they spend.
