MEETING SHUSHMA DATT, PIONEER IN BROADCASTING (BC, CANADA)
Born in Kenya, Africa, Shushma Datt was the first Indo Canadian Broadcaster, as well as the first Indo Canadian recipient of the Order of British Columbia, in B.C. Before moving to Vancouver, B.C, Shushma Datt lived in England where she began her broadcasting career while working with the BBC network. Once in Vancouver, Shushma Datt's career in the radio began with the CJVB radio in Vancouver, where she was the first announcer in Hindi and Punjabi. In 1988, Shushma Datt developed her own radio station, the “Rim Jhim” network, in which she provided the Indo Canadian community in British Columbia a great source of news and entertainment. Currently, Shushma Datt has a new radio station: “RJ 1200” AM.
